Ryuta Iida

時間をかけて人の手を渡り、
最後に自分にたどり着いた古本を封印する
本の彫刻家。

古本を素材に造形する飯田竜太にとって、彫刻することは即ち封印することである。これまでも、本から「読書」を切り離し、その内側に秘めた物語を保留したまま、別のボディランゲージを彫刻してきた。FRAGILE BOOKSで発表した「SILENT BOOK」シリーズでは、はじめて登場した「台座」の上で、もうすぐ絶滅するといわれる本が化石のように結晶化している。

Profile

飯田竜太（Ryuta Iida）
1981年静岡県生まれ。
日本大学芸術学部美術学科彫刻コース卒業、2014年東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科先端芸術専攻修了。本や新聞といった紙を素材に言語の枠組みを外側からとらえる彫刻作品を制作。2016年「本棚のアーケオプテリス Archaeopteris in The Bookshelf」（ガーディアン・ガーデン、東京）では本を「読む」ことではなく、「切る」、「彫る」ことで解釈する彫刻作品を発表した。2007年にグラフィックデザイナー田中義久とアーティストデュオ・ネルホルを結成し国内外で展示を行う。

Born 1981 in Shizuoka, Japan.
Graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Fine Arts, Sculpture Course, and completed the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Advanced Art, in 2014. In 2016, he presented “Archaeopteris in The Bookshelf” (Guardian Garden, Tokyo), a sculptural work that interprets books not by “reading” them, but by “cutting” and “carving” them. In 2007, he formed the artist duo Nerhol with graphic designer Yoshihisa Tanaka and has exhibited both in Japan and abroad.
