写真を撮るのは本をつくるためで、
本は持ち運べる美術館である。
ダヤニータ・シン（Dayanita Singh）は、本をつくることが写真を印刷するための単なるメディアとは考えていない。本そのものが作品であり、本をひらくことはミュージアムである、そうあるべきだと考えている。そんな彼女の本との向き合い方に、おおいに共感する。これまでの出版物の多くは、ゲルハルト・シュタイデル（Gerhard Steidl）と共同で制作されてきたことも、ダヤニータ・シンを語る上で、重要なことだろう。最新作は「本のオブジェ」であり、本、オブジェ、展覧会、カタログを同時に兼ねそなえた作品になるはずだ。Profile
Dayanita Singh（ダヤニータ・シン）
1961年、ニューデリー（インド）生まれ。アーメダバードの国立デザイン大学、ニューヨークの国際写真センター（ICP）にてドキュメンタリー写真を学ぶ。インドが抱える社会問題、とりわけセックスワーカーや児童労働、貧困などを追い続け、欧米の雑誌に掲載された。「ロンドン･タイムズ」でオールド・デリーを13年にわたって撮り続け、2001年に 『マイセルフ・モナ・アハメド』として出版。ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ（2011年、2013年）やシドニー・ビエンナーレ（2016年）など国際展に招聘されること多数。京都国立近代美術館と東京国立近代美術館の「映画をめぐる美術－マルセル･ブロータースから始まる」展（2013～2014年）に出品。2017年には「ダヤニータ・シン インドの大きな家の美術館」展を東京都写真美術館で開催。
